PI ACTION ALERT:
House Vote This Week on
Budget Bill that Would Starve Health Programs.
Tell Your Representative To Vote NO!
May 10, 2006
The House of Representatives could vote this week on a Budget
Resolution, which provides recommendations from Congress on how
much money to spend overall in various areas, such as health care.
In March, the Senate approved its version of the Budget Resolution
which included an amendment to increase spending on health and education
programs by $7 billion. While this amount is less than what is needed,
it would help restore funding for many vital health programs (such
as the Ryan White CARE Act) that have suffered from cuts.
Unfortunately, the House version of this bill doesn't include the
extra $7 billion. Health care advocates around the country are urging
the House to reject this Budget Resolution. No budget is better
than one that will continue to starve vital health care programs.
Please join in this effort by calling your House Representative
right now and asking him/her to vote NO on the budget.
How you can help:
Call your House Representative immediately and say:
"My name is __________ and I live in (city/state).
I urge Representative ___________ to vote no on the Budget Resolution.
This bill will force more cuts in health care programs, including
those that help people with HIV/AIDS."
You can call your Representative toll-free at 1-800-459-1887. You
will get the Capitol switchboard. Ask to be connected to your Representative's
office. Thank you for taking the time to make a difference!
